This notice explains how Cairns & Company ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores and protects personal information, and the choices you have. It applies to this website (cairns.nz / www.cairns.co.nz), to the Cairns & Company Insights newsletter, and to enquiries you send us.
We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles. Cairns & Company operates from Auckland, New Zealand.
If you sign up for the Cairns & Company Insights newsletter, we collect the information you enter on the form — your email address and, if you choose to provide them, your first name, last name and company. We also record the date you subscribed and confirmed, and later the topics or regions you tell us you're interested in.
If you make an enquiry, we collect the contact details and any information you choose to include in your message so that we can respond.
Like most websites, we collect limited technical and usage information through analytics (see "Cookies and analytics" below). This is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to serve third-party advertising.
We add you to the Insights list only when you ask us to. Subscriptions use double opt-in: after you sign up, we email you to confirm it's really you, and you're added only once you click that confirmation link.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did lawfully before you withdrew it.
We use trusted service providers to run the newsletter and website. They act on our instructions and only for the purposes described here:
We may also disclose personal information where we are required or authorised to do so by law. We do not otherwise share your information with third parties without your consent.
This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the pages, so we can improve them. This may involve cookies and similar technologies that collect information such as pages viewed and general location. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
Some of our service providers, including Kit and Google, store and process information on servers outside New Zealand (including in the United States). Where information is held overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by comparable safeguards to those required under New Zealand law.
We keep subscriber information for as long as you remain subscribed to Insights. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details, we remove them from active use, retaining only what we are required to keep by law or for legitimate record-keeping. Enquiry correspondence is retained only for as long as needed for the matter it relates to.
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will respond as soon as we reasonably can, and within the timeframes the Act requires.
Every Insights email includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you'll be removed straight away. You can also email us and we'll take care of it.
